Camosun Bog Story

Once upon a time, two smart and brave Gladstone warriors, named Kenneth and Jacky, significantly changed Greater Vancouver forever. Growing up in the ancient land of Narnia, Kenneth and Jacky acquired sacred knowledge from their spiritual ancestors who have been warning us about the ice cold evil in a far away land called Vancouver. When Kenneth and Jacky were about to leave Narnia to conquer more land and make Narnia a stronger place, Kenneth and Jacky’s ancestors provided them with unbelievable powers and gargantuan strength with the spirits they have inhabited ever since they were young kids.Unfortunately, these amazing abilities would only last for a certain period of time, and it couldn’t be predicted.. In addition, their ancestors also provided them with endless aging in order to defeat the ice cold evil. Kenneth and Jacky left Narnia to conquer Vancouver.
As days went by, Kenneth and Jacky finally arrived at Vancouver and encountered something really mysterious; Ice. The Ice was extremely dangerous, entirely taking over south-eastern British Columbia. Extremely surprised, Kenneth and Jacky activated their ancestor’s powers and attempted to get entirely get rid of the ice. The epic fight against the ice took over 2,000 years! Kenneth and Jacky were still in great condition and their endless aging provided them with youth strength!  When the ice receded, 10 000 years ago, it left behind a scarred landscape! Kenneth and Jacky were confused. They realized the ice receded filled with long amounts of water and a lake was created.
As time flied by, Kenneth and Jacky, still in Vancouver, were encountering amazing sightings at the lake because new species were growing. Sedges and Cattails suddenly started growing around the lake. Unfortunately, Kenneth has been feeling weaker. He felt that the powers were slowly leaving his body. Jacky, still in great condition, came to the conclusion that the bog was slowly stealing Kenneth’s powers! Gradually the lake filled in, becoming shallow throughout, and plants were able to grow over the whole area. In place of a lake a swamp formed, lasting 5 000 years.
Not only was Kenneth getting now, so was Jacky! The bog was growing full of amazing species and was still stealing their Ancestor’s powers. The swamp started growing grasses and sedges created by the powers of Kenneth and Jacky. When some of these plants would started dying, they would fall into the swamp, blocking the streams consisting of fresh water and nutrients that the swamp relied on. Eventually, these conditions created the invasion of sphagnum moss!

As years continued to pass by, Kenneth and Jacky, extremely weak and boney, sat near the swamp and all their powers  slowly decayed into the bog. With a smile on both their faces, they slowly turned into stardust and flew all around the bog, providing the bog with all their ancestor's powers and eternal life.

Our Community Outreach

On May 5, 2017, Kenneth and I decided to learn and give back to our community by attending Global Rewind IV at Science World. Upon arriving to the event, we received a warm welcome by volunteers who seemed about our age. After checking in, we continued through Science World and met many other students from different school all over Vancouver. Because there was some extra time before the event started, Kenneth and I explored the area and played games with fellow Gladstone students. At around 6:30pm, all the attendees were invited into a small theatre, where multiple volunteers reenacted a play about global warming and how we should limit as much waste as possible. They also played a series of videos that showcased others schools across Vancouver showing off their environment saving clubs, which I think is very interesting and I think Gladstone should also have a club that plans events to help out the environment.
